I think there are as many variations to cuckolding as there are members of this tribe. I was a victim of the cheating wives area in my first two marriages, long before I knew of cuckolding. I don't speak from experience, but on the basis of many conversations and lots of reading, I would say that cuckolding is the lifestyle in which one partner is polyamorous and the other is monogamous. Usually it is the woman who is polyamourous when one speaks of cuckolding. Everything else is not part of the definition, although one can notice lots of patterns. Among the most commong patterns, one finds: a voyeur husband, a woman who enjoys many partners at the same time, a predilection for well-endowed men, humiliation play, chastity play for the cuckolded party, a predilection for black men and so on. But the basic definition is: one partner is free to enjoy her sexuality, the other is monogamous.

Incidentally, the spelling is cuckold, without an 'h', although you are right many people write it with an 'h'. The world cuckold traditionally indicates a husband whose wife cheats on him with or without his consent or knowledge.

It is very common to find oneself chosing from the above depending on comfort levels, desires, and levels of interest in the cuckold lifestyle.

The above does exclude cheating wives/women as I personally feel that aspect is not true cuckolding as a lifestyle choice. Without honesty, communication, and all parties aware, I feel that isn't a lifestyle choice between all parties concerned, but rather it is a personal choice that has little to do with persuit of a healthy ethical cuckolding environment.

Like one of the earlier posters said, I agree it's different things to different folks and what one may call cuckolding in the grand scheme of things not fit into the broad defintion.

For us, we kind of backed into it.
